Taking Care Of Ernie

Ernie01

Recently handsome Zebu Ernie had an open wound on his left shoulder, possibly from rubbing that area on one of the fences. Dr. Morgan came out and along with a Zookeeper, cleaned the wound and took a culture. There was an injection of antibiotic and something for pain relief. Even with TLC from staff, care of the lesion continued for quite some time. Ernie, of course, has horns and he seemed to be rubbing the affected area with his left horn. A short-term solution was to put a nice new fuzzy chartreuse tennis ball on the horn which solved the problem in addition to receiving lots of double takes from passing visitors.
