Recently Zoo Staff gathered together at City Hall for more than an hour of insightful information about rattlesnakes provided by Mike Cardwell who volunteers his expertise at Effe Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael. Given the wild areas around the Zoo it’s not uncommon to have rattlesnakes seeking shelter and possibly wild mice, etc. in the Zoo. Once spotted, a keeper uses a long, hooked “snake hook” to gather up the snake and gently put it into a deep plastic “bucket” with a locking lid.
